I just went to McDonald’s and got a new fruit smoothie instead of a Big Mac and fries. The difference in fat and calories is enormous. I congratulate McDonald’s for offering healthier options. I am glad that they have made this new option available but the fact is McDonalds Smoothie is a nightmare for a diabetic, pre-diabetic, hypoglycemic person or person trying to lose weight. And the sad thing is that its marketed to be “healthy”.
According to McDonalds website its strawberry banana fruit blend, low fat yogurt, and Ice. Sounds good right? Well not so fast. Hidden much further down on their ingredients PDF is the ingredients list for their strawberry banana blend (I have to take away some points for deceptive practices).
Strawberry Banana Fruit Blend: Strawberry puree, banana puree, water, sugar, concentrated apple juice, contains less than 1% of the following: cellulose powder, natural (botanical source) and artificial flavors, xantham gum, citric acid, colored with fruit and vegetable juice, pectin, ascorbic acid (preservative). (There’s also some various vitamins and minerals from the fruit of course.)
